Below is our
constitution containing details of how we run the club and its competitions.
The constitution was adopted in
September 2003 and revised in September & November 2004; May & September
2005
1.
This club
shall be called Glenrothes
Chess Club
and referred to in this constitution as "the club".
2.
The Aims of the club are the encouragement and practice ofchess amongst its members.
3.
Membership rates will be determined at the AGM.
The
General Committee
4.
The General
Committee shall conduct the affairs of the Club and consist of President,
Secretary and Treasurer, and up to three additional members elected
by a general meeting.
5.
The term of
office shall be for one year, and members shall be eligible for
re-election.
6.
The General
Committee shall meet at regular intervals as required.
7.
A General
Committee quorum shall consist of not less than 3 members.
8.
Special
meetings of the General Committee shall be called by the Secretary on
instructions from the President or not less than 2 Committee members, at
least 7 days notice being given.
Office
Bearers’ Duties
9.
To promote as
active a club as possible.

The President will chair club meetings and guide the activities of the club
in accordance with its constitution.

The Secretary will keep members informed of relevant issues, act and
correspond on their behalf and:
a)
Organize club meetings.
b) Organize
Club competitions.
c) Deal with
TAFCA/SCA matters.

The Treasurer will deal with financial matters and:
a)
Collect all monies and produce an annual report at the AGM.
b) Write
cheques for club activities and purchases (such transactions requiring the
Treasurer’s signature along with that of either the President or
Secretary).

The
Treasurer, President and other committee members may assist the Secretary
where appropriate
Schools
and Junior Chess

The
Club recognizes the role chess can play in raising both self-esteem and
educational attainment among young people and, accordingly, will do all it
can to promote schools and junior chess in the Glenrothes and central Fife
area.

Regarding junior chess,
the club will, where possible,
(a)provide the venue, coaching
expertise, publicity and equipment to run a regular junior club
(b)organise a junior team to enter
local chess leagues
(c)maintain a junior section as part of the club's website

Regarding schools chess,
the club will support local schoolschess
by seeking to
(a)encourageadult club members willing to organise and supportlocal school chess clubs or competitions
(b) (where funds exist) set aside equipment to be used by
schools for the purpose of developing schools chess
General
Meetings
17
An Annual
General Meeting (AGM) shall be held on the first Monday of September of
each year, or the first available day thereafter.

An
Extraordinary General Meeting shall be called on the instructions of a
simple majority of the General Committee, or on a requisition signed by
not less than 30 % of the members of the Club.

Not less than
7 days clear notice shall be given to all members.

Motions for
discussion at AGMs, not originating from within the General Committee,
shall be lodged with the Secretary at least 14 days preceding the AGM

A resolution
put to the vote of a General Meeting shall be decided by a show of hands.
22
At all General
Meetings, not less than 30% of subscribed members shall constitute a
quorum.

Altering the Constitution
requires approval of at least 2/3 of members present at a General Meeting
Club Competitions
1
The
Club will organise the following tournaments: Championship (including
Minor and Major); Grayson Cup and Quickplay. The precise rules and
formats to be agreed at the agm.
